
Brian Shaw
Brian Shaw completed his M.A. at the DePaul University School for New Learning in Chicago. Brian Professor of Theater and Associate Chairperson of the Theater Department of Columbia College Chicago, where he teaches acting, physical theater, community-based performance and theater history. He is also a departmental representative to the Urban Missions Program of Columbia College. Through this program, the Theater Department works in close collaboration with community based organizations to integrate youth performance projects into the Theater curriculum. He is the recipient of the 2003 Excellence in Teaching Award from Columbia College.

In 2001, he developed an exchange program between the Theater Department and the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, Serbia. In 2003, under his direction, students from the Academy and Columbia College collaborated to createa production for the INFANT festival. Brian is currently working in partnership with the University of East London, researching education and practice in community arts. He is a founding member of "Plasticene" an experimental theater company devoted to the creation of new works of physical theater. Plasticene productions have been performed in Chicago at the Steppenwolf Studio, Chopin, Viaduct and National Pastime theaters, as well as in New York City, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Ohio and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
