Paul M. Camic
Paul is the Clinical Research Director in the Clinical Psychology Programme at Canterbury Christ Church University where he is also Reader in Clinical and Health Psychology. He is also a consultant clinical psychologist in the National Health Service. He had previously been on the faculty of the clinical psychology programme at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago and at Columbia College Chicago, where he directed the Cultural Studies Program. He has longstanding interests in how psychology and the arts might intersect to form new possibilities for health care and community development. He is author and co-editor of three books including Qualitative Research in Psychology: Expanding Perspectives in Methodology and Design (American Psychological Association Books, 2003).
For a number of years, probably since he was about 4 years old, Paul has been collecting objects found on the streets of eastern Massachusetts, where he grew up, and other places where he has lived and traveled. Concerned that he was becoming hghg

a pack rat, his parents were thrilled when he settled on social geography and environmental studies as an undergraduate. Although a practicing clinical psychologist he is discovering that his early training in environmental studies fits perfectly with his interests in the arts and cultural reuse and regeneration.
Current projects related to the Cultural Reuse Research Collaborative include: how and why people use found objects; examining viewer's responses to the box constructions of American assemblage artist Joseph Cornell (one of the first great cultural reuse artists); documenting the work of artists who reuse cultural materials in their art; exploring through coursework and research projects how social scientists (anthropologists, geographers, psychologists) might work with artists to form a more environmentally and socially sustainable future for local communities.
